How it compares.

Three apps people often look at, job by job. If a plain desktop note is all you need, Apple Stickies is free and fine.

Frequently asked questions.

What exactly is Little Space?

A sticky notes app for Mac. Your notes live as small colour tabs on the edge of your screen. Hover there to see their names, then move onto one and the note opens.

How do I open a note?

Move your mouse to the edge of the screen where your tabs are, and each tab shows its name. Move onto a name, or click it, and the note slides out. You can also press ⌃ ⌥ N from any app. Move your mouse away and it tucks back.

How do I make a new sticky?

Open any note and click the + tab on the edge, just below your other tabs. You can also choose New sticky from the Little Space icon in the menu bar. Each new sticky gets its own colour and its own tab.

Do I need an account?

No. Download it after checkout, drag Little Space into Applications and open it. No activation code or license file is needed.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay €9 once and keep it, with free updates. If it's not for you, email within 14 days for a full refund.

Where are my notes stored?

On your Mac, encrypted, with the key kept in your Mac's Keychain. Little Space itself never connects to the internet. If you turn on iPhone sync, a copy of your writing also lives in Apple Notes and your tasks in Apple Reminders, in your iCloud.

Do I need an app on my iPhone?

No. Little Space is a Mac app and uses two Apple apps you already have. Your writing goes to Apple Notes, in the Little Space folder. Your tasks go to Apple Reminders, in a list for each sticky, with real checkboxes. Click the gear icon beside a sticky’s title, choose iPhone sync and turn on Sync with iPhone. Your Mac asks once for Notes and once for Reminders. Turn on Notes and Reminders in iCloud settings on both devices, with the same Apple Account. Notes stored under On My Mac stay on your Mac.

Can I add notes from my iPhone?

Yes, both ways. Edit or add a note in the Little Space folder in Apple Notes and it appears on your Mac. Tick or add a task in a Little Space list in Apple Reminders and it’s ticked or added on your Mac.

One tip: Apple Notes’ own checklist and bullet buttons can’t be read by other apps, so sync pauses for a note that uses them. Type [] for a task or - for a bullet instead.

Is iPhone sync private?

It's as private as your other Apple Notes and Reminders. Little Space puts your writing into Apple Notes and your tasks into Apple Reminders on your Mac, and Apple's iCloud takes them to your iPhone. I never see them. By default Apple encrypts iCloud Notes but holds the keys. For end-to-end encryption, where only your own devices can read them, turn on Advanced Data Protection in your Apple account settings. Any sticky can stay off your iPhone: untick it under Choose which stickies sync. More on the privacy page.

Does voice need the internet?

No. Your Mac turns your voice into text by itself. The first time you use a language, your Mac downloads it from Apple once.

Will my notes show up when I share my screen?

Not if you don't want them to. Press ⌃ ⌥ H to hide everything, and press it again to bring it back. Or switch on Hide stickies from screen sharing and recordings in Settings.

Will the tabs burn into my OLED screen?

They don't have to. Switch on Hide tabs until I point at the edge in Settings. The tabs stay invisible until you push your mouse against the edge. A tab only shows up on its own when something in it is due.

Can I move the tabs?

Yes. Put them on any edge of your screen: left, right, top or bottom. Just drag the tabs to where you want them, or pick an edge in Settings. You can also move them along the edge and choose which screen they live on.

Can I find an old note?

Press ⌃ ⌥ F and start typing. Every note is searched, including the ones you archived.

Will it get in my way?

The tabs are a few pixels wide. Touching the edge only shows their names, and a note opens when you move onto one. One shortcut hides everything.

Which Macs does it work on?

Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Stop losing the small stuff.

Sticky notes on the edge of your Mac, synced with your iPhone. €9 once.

Why I made this
I kept losing small thoughts because opening a notes app took too long, so I put my notes on the edge of my screen.
